CBSA CLAPS DOWN: Three Assault Rifles Seized in Cornwall

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) ain’t messin’ around. On March 3, they cornered Warren Oakes, 21, from Akwesasne, after he tried to smuggle three prohibited assault-style firearms into the country through the Cornwall port of entry. Oakes got spooked and fled when CBSA flagged his ride for a secondary check. The boys from RCMP, OPP, and Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service swooped on him during a traffic stop. Back at the border, they found the assault rifles, three prohibited magazines, and confiscated the vehicle. Oakes is facin’ a stack of charges: smuggling firearms, uttering false statements, evading compliance, hindering an officer, possession of unlawfully imported items, unlawful importation, and more. The investigation’s still heatin’ up, so more charges might be comin’ his way. Minister of Public Safety Gary Anandasangaree praised the team effort: 'This seizure shows how committed CBSA is to keepin’ illegal firearms outta Canada.'
