The boys in red have gone international, eh. The RCMP's Federal Policing is flexin' its new budget and 1,000 extra boots on the ground to take down transnational organized crime. Commissioner Mike Duheme laid it out: "Criminal networks operate across jurisdictions, exploiting international connections. Our response must be equally interconnected."
Over the past year, the RCMP has doubled its presence in the U.S. and Mexico, working hand-in-hand with local cops to nab 10 Canadian fugitives wanted for some serious charges πββοΈ. Theyβve also made moves in Colombia, Qatar, Spain, and France, showing theyβre not messin' around.
Three big ops highlight the impact: Operation Hard Ball took down 38 bad guys from India-based crime groups; Operation Giant Slalom dismantled the Ryan Wedding cartel, charging 40 individuals; and Operation Dead Hand clapped Roberto Scoppa and Guramrit Sidhu, with Sidhu copping a 20-year bid in U.S. federal prison.
